The UK government announced that this move is intended to help curb net
Immigration. However, The Graduate Route will not be affected by new immigration restrictions as eligible students will still be allowed 2-3 years to remain in the UK under this route.
The government says it remains committed to the UK’s International Education Strategy and that the target of attracting 600,000 international students has been met for two years running.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), a union representing over 155,000
federal government employees, Employees, announced a strike effective yesterday that will impact most government departments, including Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Some Government of Canada services will be limited while the strike is ongoing.

-In-person appointments or events including citizenship ceremonies
-Contacting IRCC via email, phone or social media
-Consular citizenship and passport services
-Passport services in Canada

Recently, Minister of IRCC, Sean Fraser, gave an update on the estimated 700
International students from Canada that were facing deportation. While some students claimed that they were unaware of their consultants’ fraudulent behaviour, Fraser stated that the well-being of those who were affected by unscrupulous actors is of utmost importance.
As a result of this, a task force has been created that engages teams from IRCC and CBSA to work on this.
The highlight of this update was the fact that international students that were not aware of or involved in the fraud will not face deportation, as those students do not deserve to be removed from Canada.

Prime Minister Modi thanked him and further announced that India will also open a new consulate in Seattle.

Canada’s Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, has announced the launch of
category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates. IRCC will be focusing on Express Entry Candidates who have a strong French language proficiency or work experience in the following fields:
-Healthcare
-Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
-Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
-Transport
-Agriculture and agri-food

The federal government releases the total number of PNP nominations each year in
The Immigration Levels Plan and divides it among the provinces. The current immigration level plan has a target of 117,500 new permanent residents admitted through the PNP per year by 2025.
On March 10, provincial immigration ministers endorsed a new multi-year immigration plan for the provinces that allows provinces to see the number of new permanent resident admissions that can be expected for up to three years in the future.

Last month, it was announced by IRCC that anyone applying for PR must submit
Biometrics even if they have submitted them for a temporary residence permit.
The updated policy returns IRCC to pre-pandemic permanent resident application procedures. During the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC implemented a policy in the Global Case Management System (GCMS) that exempted PR candidates from resubmitting biometrics if they had done so with a temporary resident application within 10 years.

IRCC will be improving labour mobility in North America by creating a
Streamlined work permit for H-1B Speciality occupation visa holders in the US to apply to come to Canada.
This was announced later last month by IRCC minister Hon. Sean Fraser.

While you can work in Canada even after your study program has been
completed, there are certain Requirements that you need to fulfil to be able to work full-time.
The IRCC has announced that the Student Direct Stream (SDS) programme for expedited study permits will begin accepting results from the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test and the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program-General (CELPIP-General) tests taken at a test centre on August 10, 2023.

Good news for Canada study visa aspirants! The applicants via SDS now do not need a
minimum score of 6 bands in each module.
However, overall 6 bands will be required in IELTS academic starting August 10, 2023.
Later last month, the minister of IRCC, Hon. Sean Fraser announced a new temporary
Measure that would remove The limit on the length of study programs that temporary foreign workers can enrol in without a study permit.
Prior to this reform, foreign workers could study while working, but only in 6-month or less programmes. They would need to apply for a separate study permit if they intended to register in a lengthier programme.
This has created a barrier for foreign workers who want to further their education and acquire additional training, particularly those who need to authenticate their foreign credentials through specific programmes.
The new interim measure will be in effect for three years.
